ADVENTURES IN THE WILD! Major barking coming from Leroy this morning.  He doesn’t usually bark incessantly so I knew something was going on and I went outside to investigate.  He had discovered a tortoise!  I don’t think he’s ever seen one before and couldn’t figure it out.   He would tiptoe up to it and sniff…and then jump backwards and bark!  It seems alive and yet unmoving and all hard.  The tortoise did not put his head or little legs out.  Poor thing was probably scared but that shell is pretty good protection.  After a while I was afraid that either Leroy or the tortoise would have a heart attack or that maybe Leroy would flip the shell over.  Or that our neighbors would become very irritated by the early morning barking.  So I tucked Leroy under my arm and headed back inside.  Almost in the door, he squiggled around, took a look back and gave one last bark in the direction of the tortoise, just to let him know who is the boss of that backyard.
